Climbing Injuries We Treat in Vancouver

Climbing places significant demands on the fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders and lower body. At Progression Clinic, your physiotherapy plan begins with a detailed assessment of your symptoms, movement, strength, mobility and climbing load.

Treatment is then adapted to your injury, experience level and goals, whether you want to return to recreational climbing, resume training or perform at a higher level.

Your Physiotherapy Experience

What to Expect at Your Physiotherapy Appointment in Vancouver

Your physiotherapy appointment begins with a conversation about your symptoms, injury history, training demands and the activities you want to return to. From there, your physiotherapist can assess mobility, strength, movement patterns and the way your body responds to specific tasks. For climbers and athletes, this can include a closer look at the movements and loading patterns that are relevant to your sport.

Assessment Focused on How You Move

Rather than focusing only on the painful area, your assessment considers how strength, mobility, coordination and training load may be contributing to the problem. This helps identify practical priorities for rehabilitation and gives you a clearer understanding of what may need to change as you recover.

A Rehabilitation Plan Built Around Your Goals

Your treatment plan may combine therapeutic exercise, progressive loading, manual therapy, movement education, dry needling or IMS, blood flow restriction training and sport-specific rehabilitation. The goal is to build capacity progressively so that your recovery supports the activities that matter to you.

A Progressive Return to Climbing and Sport

For climbing injuries and sports rehabilitation, returning to activity is part of the process. Progression Clinic can help you understand how to reintroduce training progressively, manage load and rebuild confidence. When relevant, direct climbing movement assessment can also help connect rehabilitation exercises with the demands you face on the wall.

Physiotherapy FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Physiotherapy in Vancouver

Do you only treat climbers?

No. Progression Clinic works with climbers, athletes and active individuals with a range of injuries, persistent pain and post-surgical rehabilitation needs. Climbing is an area of particular experience, but the physiotherapy approach is adapted to each patient's goals and activities.

What climbing injuries can physiotherapy help with?

Physiotherapy may be appropriate for finger injuries, shoulder and elbow pain, Achilles injuries, ACL rehabilitation, post-surgical recovery and other problems that affect your ability to climb or train. Your treatment plan depends on the findings of your individual assessment.

Can my climbing movement be assessed directly?

When it is relevant to your injury and goals, direct movement assessment while climbing or training can help your physiotherapist understand how you load the injured area and how your movement strategy may influence symptoms or performance.

What treatments may be included in physiotherapy?

Depending on your needs, care may include exercise-based rehabilitation, progressive loading, manual therapy, movement education, dry needling or IMS, blood flow restriction training and direct movement assessment. Recommendations are selected according to your presentation and recovery goals.
